"Hiring Ivan Alba as our math consultant was definitely the best thing Tubman did for our math program.  The year I became principal at Tubman we were in Program Improvement year 1 and only 37% of our students were proficient in math.  Within one year, our API score increased by 33 points and 52% of our students are now proficient in math.  This type of increase in learning is unheard of at Tubman.  Our staff was ecstatic and the first thing they asked for when we returned from a long summer was, "Can we please continue our work with Ivan?" 

The two schools that I have seen Ivan Alba work at are high-poverty schools (Granger Jr. High and Castle Park Middle).  Ivan has been the coach supporting the principals and the staff so that students in these schools can receive the best education possible. He develops the staff’s ability to teach model lessons and use stations to differentiate instruction. He is able to monitor constantly the success of turnaround strategies and encourages new approaches where expected gains can be realized. His positive attitude creates conditions that enable the principal and their staffs to be successful.  Students do get better academically under Ivan’s watch.
